They amaze me

Parrots are super intelligent and affectionate birds. They have shown to be able to associate words with their meanings, identify count and describe objects, form sentences, solve puzzles, and use tools. Parrots make excellent companion animals too because they form close affectionate bonds with their owners; however, they are not low maintenance!

Parrots require adequate room temperature, training, exercise, and social interaction (with other parrots or humans) for good health. Also, large parrot species have very long life expectancies of over 80 years! Before considering a pet parrot, be warned: they mature into complex demanding adults that need constant stimulation and affection.

It is also important to consider your parrot’s history. Make sure to never buy a parrot that was kidnapped from the wild. The trapping of wild parrots for the pet trade has diminished wild populations, and more parrots are threatened with extinction than any other group of birds. The best would be to adopt a bird from a parrot adoption center or from a family that can no longer meet the demands of their beautiful bird.
